Like the other Dire Straits cover I have, Walk Of Life also hails from the 1985 album Brothes In Arms. The song peaked at #1 in Ireland, #2 in the UK and was a top 10 in the US market back in 1985-86.

Depending on where this song was released, you would tend to get a different B side to this single. Can you believe that the co-producer of this album voted against having this track included? The band out-voted his decision fortunately.

The Walk Of Life according to Dire Straits is about storytellers roaming from village to village telling stories along the way, before the days of mass communication.

Rhythm for Walk Of Life

If you watch my video demo here you'll see for most part it's a steady up and dn pattern. Even by adding in the organ riff. And Im doing a bit of walking bass when moving to the G chord.

The rock and roll "feel" to this while on D is a simple hammer-on onto the A string on the 2nd fret. The drop D at the top allows you to now worry about playing an open E by mistake.

On the G chord its a quick slide to the C chord, but really just the D string part of the chord.
