This song has the unique distinction of becoming a one take song that managed to top the charts
for
Barry McGuire back in 1965. The
song was recorded on a Thur morning in one take, but the gang were going to clean it up in subsequent
takes later, but the song was leaked to a DJ who gave it airplay. The rest is history.

the group THEM released their version and hit #2 with iot in the UK. Van Morrison was lead singer
for the group at that time and he went on to release another version in the mid 1970's.
Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin played guitar on the original recording.
