Jimmy Buffett has been around the music scene for nearly 40 years and has a huge following
of fans known as Parottheads. He has created an image of sun, sand and tropical beaches in
his music and lives very much what he sings.
Buffett is from Fairhope Alabama and started his music career of sorts working for Billboard
magazine after high school. The breakup of Flatt and Scruggs was his first major story. He now
resides in Palm Beach Florida and owns a home in St Barts, an island in the Caribbean.
Buffett looked up to Jim Croce and even met the singer and spent time with him on his farm.
When Croce was killed in a plane crash in 1973, Buffett asked by music execs to fill his shoes with his laid
back singing style.
Strangely enough, Buffett had never won any music awards but that changed in 2003 when he and Alan
Jackson recorded Its Five O'Clock Somewhere, which went to #1 and won the 2003 CMA Vocal Event
Of The Year award.
Besides being an accomplished singer songwriter, Buffett has also written 3 best selling books
and has co-authored several childrens books. He has also made several TV and film appearances.
But one of his biggest interests is his business ventures in restaurant chains, beer, casinos
and more. His first casino, the Margaritaville Casino & Resort, is slated to open in Biloxi,
Mississippi in the Spring of 2010. Buffett earns an estimated $100 million per year.
And like many in the music business, Jimmy Buffett gives back thru all of his charity work
which involves children, families and environmental causes.
