Welcome to my page on how to play You And Tequila by Kenny Chesney. There is also a
free tab in the right menu.
This song was not written by Kenny Chesney but by Metraca Berg and Deana Carter, both of whom recorded their
own versions of this song. Carter had her version in 2003 and Berg in 2011.
Kenny said he first heard the song when touring with Carter in 2003. Since he was renting a home in Malibu California,
the song and the atmosphere of California felt like a good time to record the song.
The song hails from the 2010
album Hemingways Whiskey and was 1 of 4 singles released from the album and the song peaked at #6 for Chesney.
The other songs were all #1 hits.
How To Play You And Tequila By Kenny Chesney Kirby Style
On the video Chesney appears to playing the song in G, but his guitar is tuned 1/2 step or 1 fret below standard
pitch, so he's playing the song in Gb. So with standard pitch tuning, and a capo on the 4th fret, I play this song
in D with drop D tuning.
The chords on this one are D, a Gb note, G, A7, Gbm, Bm and an E7. In the beginning and during the song you'll notice a
quick slide on the G and B string located at the 6th and 5th fret and the 2nd fret. Ive added an improvised lead break
which is fully covered in the full version instructional tutorial from the link below.

How To Play Rhythm For You And Tequila
This has a pretty simple rhythm pattern which is note-dn-note-up-dn. So bar 1 is the root note, bar 2 is the next
downstroke, the 3rd bar would be the next root note and the 4th bar would be the up-dn stroke.
Even when the song shifts to the Bm and the E7 phase, the rhythm doesnt change. So one pattern all the way thru
is the order of the day for this song.
