How To Play The No No Song
by Ringo Starr

On this page I'd like to explain to you how to play the No No Song by Ringo Starr. Check out my acoustic demo clip and grab some free tabs in the lower right hand menu.

The No No No Song

Ringo Starr released his 4th album after the breakup of The Beatles in 1974 called "Goodnight Vienna". He had two top 10 hits and one of them was this song written by Hoyt Axton called The No No Song. It was a #1 hit in Canada and peaked at #3 in the US.

It's a pretty simple song for the acoustic and tells the story of an ex drug user being tempted by weed, cocaine and moonshine to fall off the wagon as they say. Harry Nilsson sings backup vocals on the chorus.

Ringo has released a total of 16 albums to date and has appeared in many films. He is also the first ex-Beatle to become a grandfather.

For chords in this you'll need a C, F and a G chord or you can use a G7 if you'd like.

There isnt any picking break in this song but I decided to put one in after the second chorus as well as an ending slide pattern. Both are fully explained in my full instructional tutorial.

How To Play Rhythm For The No No Song

Ringo Starr No No

This one is an easy dn-up-slap-up-dn-up-slap-up and so on all thru the song. On the last line of the chorus I play all down strokes when I pic the ending riff on the open G and D string.

Also when you pick the lead break you want to try and keep the right hand moving where there are gaps. There are a few spots where you can get in an extra few strumming strokes before you keep on picking.

Check out the classic video in the right hand menu and grab the free lyrics and tab as well.
