On this page I'd like to explain to you how to play How To Play Sugar Sugar by Andy Kim. Check out my acoustic
demo clip and grab some free tabs below the player further down the page.
Andy Kim co-wrote this song with Jeff Berry in 1969 and the song became a #1 hit for the fictional group
known as The Archies, who were actually a group of studio musicians who provided songs for the cartoon series of the same name.
DJ's were not told who was actually behind the song because a previous relase by The Archies didnt do so well on the charts and on radio.
But this one hit #1 in Canada, the US and UK, much to the surprise of just about everyone.Andy Kim is from Montreal originally.
The Monkees never recorded this song but it was offered to them. They turned it down because they were looking for a more mature sound.
And apparently George W Bush ranks Sugar Sugar as one of his favorite songs.
How To Play Sugar Sugar By Andy Kim Kirby Style
I play this one using drop D tuning. You'll only need the following 4 chords which are D, C, G and A or an A7 will alslo work. There is only a short
picking riff in this song but no main lead break.

How To Play Rhythm For Sugar Sugar
The best pattern I can suggest you use with this song is a down-up-slap-up-down-up-slap-up pattern except when you play the picking riff and
that is done with all down strokes.
Midway thru the song I change to a steady up and down shuffle patten as well.
Other than that it's a pretty simple song that became a huge hit song in 1969.
