Let me explain to you how to play Sealed With A Kiss by Brian Hyland. The song was initially recorded in 1960 by The Four Seasons but failed to chart.

In 1962 Hyland picked up the song which was written by Gary Geld and Peter Udell and recorded his version.

The song went straight up the charts and peaked at #3 in both the US and the UK. Over the coming years, artists such as Bobby Vinton, The Letterman, Bobby Vee, Gary and The Playboys and others have all recorded this song.

But Hylands version was the highest charted version until 1989 when Jason Donovan hit #1 in the UK with his version.

Chords For How To Play Sealed With A Kiss

Here are the chords you'll need for this song. Em, D, A, Am, G, E7, B7 and Gb. The last verse of this song does a key shift by 1 fret, so the chords then become Fm, A#, A#m, Eb, Ab, C7 for the last verse of the song.

You'll also notice that the original song is played with a capo on the first fret using the chords Im giving you here. The likely just engineered the pitch upwards, but you'll need a capo to play along with the recording.

Strumming Pattern For Sealed With A Kiss

There are two patterns you can use for this song. The first I call a shuffle pattern where you play a note- dn-up-dn-up-note-up-dn-up then repeat as you move thru the song. The second I call a rake pattern and it's a note-dn-up-note-up-dn-up where the first dn-up is much slower and drawn out.

You'll see this pattern when I hit the line "ill see you in the sunlight". You can use either pattern for the verses, or mixed them up anywhere in the song. You decide what's best for your version..

Additional Tips On Playing Sealed With A Kiss

Ive put a picking break into this song which is basically the melody, as per the original recording. The nice thing about this is that the melody falls for the most part, within the chords of the song. If you watch you'll notice I dont stray far from the chords when playing this break. It's all explained within the full instructional tutorial.
