On this page I'm going to explain to you How To Play On The Road Again By Willie Nelson. Below you'll also find my demo
video clip so you can view some of what I explain in this article.
The song "On The Road Again" was written by Willie Nelson after he was approached by an executive producer of the film Honeysuckle Rose, in which Willie
had a starring role.
The producer asked Willie to write a song for the soundtrack and so he came up with On The Road Again. It was a huge hit for Willie,
becoming his 6th solo #1 back in 1980.
In 1981 Nelson also won a Grammy award for this song as Best Country Song Of The Year.
How To Play On The Road Again By Willie Nelson - Kirby Style
This is a great song to play at a party because it's so well known. You can't really go wrong by playing up tempo #1 hits at a party. The chords in this
are are D, Gb, Em, G and A7. You can also throw in a D7 if you'd like as you transition to the G chord from the D chord.

How To Play Rhythm For On The Road Again
As you'll notice in my demo, the rhythm is note-dn-note-up-dn ... if you play this in slow motion first and then increase the speed, you'll see
what I mean. As you move into the second verse, you can do a 4 pick from the bottom strings up and then the bass note. And on the Em I use a little
upstroke chop pattern.
The picking riffs are just basically following the melody line of the song which I fully explain in detail in my full version
instructional tutorial (link is below).
