How To Play Mama Told Me Not To Come by Three Dog Night
On this page I'd like to explain to you how to play Mama Told Me Not To Come by Three Dog Night. Check out my acoustic
demo clip and grab some free tabs in the lower right hand menu.
Mama Told Me Not To Come was written in 1966 by Randy Newman. Many my not know this writer but remember the song
"Short People" or "Sail Away" or "You Can Leave Your Hat On". And I could go on.
But Newman wrote Mama Told Me Not To Come for The Animals lead singer Eric Burdon. Of course a few years later
it became a pop singles #1 for Three Dog Night in 1970.
The song also appeared in a few films and even Tom Jones recorded a version with Stereophonics, and had a #4
hit with it in the UK.

There is some lead for a few bars in this song and depending which version you listen to, it's easy or not
so easy to hear it exactly. So I just stuck with a rhythm break. Chords Im using are G, G7, B, C, C# and D.
The verses here can be played with a note-note-chord (change) note-note-chord (change) bouncing back and forth
between the G and G7. But 3 Dog Night recorded this one with a capo on the first fret so it's in G# and G#7.
In the chorus the patten changes to a bit of a chop pattern which I explain in the full instructional tutorial.
And The B Im playing is mainly just the note and not the full chord.
