This song appeared on the
Nasville Skyline" album way back in 1969. It was released as a single that same and did very well for Dylan
in both the US (peaked at #7) and in the UK (peaked at #5).
This song was offered to
The Everly Brothers one evening after a performance in a New York club. Phil Everly had asked Dylan, who was backstage that night, if
he had any new songs written. Dylan proceeded sing a few bars of Lay Lady Lay.
But Phil misunderstood what Dylan was singing.
He heard "Lay lady lay,
lay across my big breasts, babe" ... and thought the song was about lesbians, and declined the offer. He realized later when hearing Dylan on the radio
they made a huge mistake, but they did record the song later on. Too late Phil!
Besides The Everly Brothers, other bands and artists have covered the song including
Duran Duran, The Isley Brothers, Hoyt Axton and others.

Kirby Style
Here are the chords you'll need for this one. A, Dbm, G, Bm, E, Gbm, D. You'll notice a hammer-on in a few spots while playing the A chord. This is kinda
like a quick D wthout playing a normal D chord. Hammer the B string on the 3rd and the D string on the 4th with the middle and ring fingers.
