Welcome to my page on how to play Johnny Cash by Jason Aldean. Check out the free tab in the right menu.
Jason Aldean recorded "Johnny Cash" for his 2007 album Relentless. It was written by John Rich of Big And Rich, Vicky McGehee, and Rodney Clawson.
Before Aldean released his version, Tracy Byrd had recorded a version in 2004 for a Greatest Hits album. But he
never released the song as a single. Which begs the question why was it on a Greatest Hits album if it was never a
hit for Byrd?
It was a top 10 for Aldean and peaked out at #6 on the Billboard Hot Country songs chart. The song received some
critical reviews but I think it has a great driving beat. A bit high to sing for me however.
How To Play Johnny Cash by Jason Aldean Kirby Style
The song only has three chords, and they are D, C and G using drop D tuning. It starts out with a melody riff that is carried
on throughout the song in various places. I modified the guitar break somewhat and at the end of the song, extended
nah nah nah nah nah nah nah, which Aldean sings once, to 4 times in total.
All of the guitar work is explained
in detail in my instructional tutorial (see the link below).
To play the rhythm you'll be using downstrokes in various places in the song .. but once you start singing you can
use dn-up-dn-dn-up-dn-up ... dn-up-dn-dn-up-dn-up.
Also in the chorus you can use a few bass runs on the C chord
using 1-2-3-4 and playing the C twice and the B then open A.
Same when you play the G you'll move from the G
note twice to the F, E and then back to the D chord.
Have a look at the free tab in the right hand menu for the chord changes in this one..
