Welcome to this Beatles page on how to play Honey Pie by The Beatles. Here Im going to explain how to play
this song on the acoustic guitar.
Honey Pie was a song choosen for the album "The Beatles" ... also known as The White Album.
The song was recorded in one take but the vocals by McCartney were recorded the following day. And according to George
Harrison, John Lennon played the lead guitar part of the song.
The Beatles did something unique with this song by adding scratches from an old 78 record to one of the lines
in the song which was written by McCartney. It follows what is known as the British music hall style,
or as it,s known in America as vaudeville.
Four days after the original recording, producer George Martin had 5 saxaphones and two clarinets added to the
song. It was also on that day, 4th Oct 1968, that McCartney had his vocal for the line "Now shes hit the big time"
run thru a compression unit to give it that 1920's authentic sound.

The chords for this one are Em, Am, Cm, G, A7, D7, D# and E7. As you'll see in my demo, the song starts out
just using the first 4 chords listed in the two beginning lines. I use a bit of a hammer on also
on the Am chord. This is then followed by the A7 and D7.

How To Play Rhythm For Honey Pie
For the rhythm in this you can use a simple note-dn-note-up-dn-up ... and repeat that all the way thru the song.
There is a bass walk from the G down to the Em on the top string and you'll notice Im using a few bass runs
on the 2nd-4th fret betwen the E7-A7 and the A7-D7, which are typical runs.
In the middle of the song Ive added my own picking riff because there is a break at that point. This section
is fully explained in the full instructional tutorial. The lyrics and tabs you can grab from the right hand menu.
