How To Play Here In The Real World By Alan Jackson

The song Here In The Real World is the same title as the album, which was Alan Jackson's debut onto the country music scene back in 1990. An earlier single was released in 1989 entitles Blue Blooded Woman and made it into the top 50.

But Here In The Real World was Alan Jacksons first top 10, peaking at #3 on the US country charts and #1 in Canada.

That must have been one hell of a rush ... releasing your very first album and putting four of the five singles into the top 10 and producing two #1 hits (Id Love you All Over Again) being the other in 1991.

Kirby Style

This song follows a familiar pattern with Alan Jackson country in that its a simple country song to learn. We'll be using G, A7, D, D7, Em and a Gbm for chords in this one.

When you play a song like this one where you want to add in a few guitar runs, you can use all down strokes without messing up the rhythm. You'll see me doing this near in the chorus before the line "Darlin its sad but true" ... where I do a walk pattern with 2 open D notes and then to the A --3-3-2-2-0-0 G note on the top string .. using downstrokes.

How To Play Rhythm For Here In The Real World

As you'll notice when you watch the clip, Im using bass note strumming all thru this one. So we're playing the root note, followed by the up-dn-up pattern and then the bass note.

When you move from the D7 up to a G, you can put in a simple bass run on the top E sixth string E --0-2-3--- as you land on the G chord. And you can do a reverse also when you head back to the D chord E ---3-2-0-- open D string. You'll see me do this on the last line of the 1st verse for example.

During the chorus you'll see a bit of double bass being blended into the rhythm. I like to use this technique now and then but not too often. It works well in this song. The Intro pattern is picked again after the first verse.

The second verse is where you'll see a few slides and runs put in after each line. This is just fill I call it, but it adds a bit more to the song overall.

These are fully explained in the full instructional tutorial.
