Both Willie Nelson and Ray Charles had #1 hits from this song which was written back in 1930. Charles recorded his version in 1960 and Willie had his hit in 1978 with country audiences.

The music for the song was written by Hoagy Carmichael about his sister Georgia in 1930.

This is the official state song for the state of Georgia ... which should be obvious when entering the state because the welcome sign says "Welcome .... We're glad Georgia's on your mind."





A few covers were done on this song over the years, including covers by Dean Martin, Michael Bolton, Gladys Knight, John Mayer, Jerry Lee Lewis just to name a few.



Well to say there are a few chords in this song is an understatement. As you'll discover, this is much easier explained in the instructional tutorial ... but here is a list of most of the chords. I say most because there are some variations in this one for some of these chords which I have no clue what they are called. But there is D, D7, G7, A, Adim, Gdim, A7, Gb, Bm, Bm/A, E7, C7, B7, Gbm and C in this song.

Here is one option ... use all down strokes as Im doing thru most of this first part, but then I switch to a dn-dn-up-dn-dn ... dn-dn-up-dn-dn pattern. But Im ot consistant with this pattern either because this is one of those feel type songs. So play if how it feels best for you .. but start with the pattern above.

There are places where Im using all downstrokes ... and near the end is a steady shuffle drum roll like pattern as the song climaxs. The free tab in the right menu may be useful as well.

I have a short little riff pattern but nothing too heavy and this is also explained in detail in the full instructional tutorial.
