On this page I'd like to explain to you how to play England Swings by Roger Miller. Check out my acoustic
demo clip and grab some free tabs in the lower right hand menu.
In my research for this song by Roger Miller it appears that it wasn't released as a track from any album
but instead was simply released as a single in 1965. It peaked at #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart and #3
on the US Country Charts. The song did appear on his Golden Hits album of that same year.
The song is actually about the fashion scene in England at the time Miller wrote the song. Pat Boone and Petular
Clark each covered the song a few years later in 1967.
You'll find Miller performing this song in a few clips on youtube .. one of which is in the right hand menu.
Because Im unable to whistle, I've had to substitute some guitar riffs in place of whistling. These riffs are fully
explained in the full instructional tutorial.
How To Play England Swings by Roger Miller Kirby Style
At the last minute I decided this song would song best with drop D tuning. So for chords you'll need a D, A and a G chord.
And I've added a few walking bass lines between the chords to kinda put my own spin on this great tune.
This one you can play a note-dn-note-up-dn -- note-dn-note-up-dn all thru the song. Because of the drop D
it gives me a bit of room to add in a quick riff at the end of the intro and main picking section.
You can play this with just standard tuning as the Drop D doesnt affect any of the main picking. But it gives a
nice deep bass note to go to .. so it comes in handy on this song.
