Welcome to my page about how to play Danke Schoen by Wayne Newton who by the way was not the first singer
to record this song ... but the one who certainly put the song on the map. Further down this page you can view
my acoustic demo and grab the free tab located in the lower left menu.
Wayne Newton almost never recorded this song because it was offered to Bobby Darin first. Darin had just finished
recording Mack The Knife and was pitched this song as a follow up.
But he heard Wayne Newton at the Copacabana,
a famous night club in New York. Darin not only offered Newton the song, but changed the arrangement to fit
Newtons style.
You might be surprised to learn as I was, that Wayne Newton never had a #1 hit song over the span of his career.
Danke Schone came as close as he ever got, peaking at #13 on one chart and #3 on another.
Danke Schoen has been featured in many motion pictures and TV commercials over the years and various cover versions
have been done by Connie Francis, Brenda Lee and other performers.
This song can start in either Eb if you're singing five verses, or it can be started in E if singing only
four verses. Either way, you end up on G in the last verse, so take your pick. Each verse revolves around
three chords (four if you throw in a 7th), and slides a half step for each verse.
Im using a capo on the 2nd fret mainly because Newtons version at age 21 is simple too high to reach due to his high temon vocal range. The Danke Schoen chords Im using are Eb,A#,G#,E,B7,A,E7,F,C7,F7,Gb,Db,Gb7,B G,D7 and C ... but if you really want to learn this one, grab the free tab below.

This song has a Vegas Swing style to it so you want to try and convey that in your rhythm. If you do a
Note dn note, followed quickly by a up-dn and then repeat, you'll feel it.
Once you hit the F chord and
move to the C7 you'll see a quick dn-up-dn-dn shuffle and this can be used in that same spot on the other
follow up chords if you'd like.
I hope you found this how to play Danke Schoen by Wayne Newton page useful and informative.
