Willie Nelson Discography For Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain

This song was first recorded by Roy Acuff in the 1940,s and then by Hank Williams and Gene Vincent in the 1950's.

But it was Willie's version of Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain from the Red Stranger 1975 album that took the song to the top of the country charts, becoming Willie's first #1 single that he himself recorded.

As you may know, Willie Nelson was known for writing hit songs but not recording them himself, until this one broke open his career as an entertainer.

Apparently this was also the last song Elvis Presley played on his piano at Graceland before his death in Aug 1977.

Check out the performance clip in the right hand menu of Willie playing this one in Austin Texas. Listen to the phrasing in this one. I dare say virtually impossible to sing harmony with him on this one, except that one line, (good job buddy) ... lol!

Kirby Style

Im playing this in G along with G7, C, D and D7. A pretty simple country song as can be expected since it originated from back in the 1940's.

Im using a bit of a blues swing pattern for this instead of playin it Willie style as you'll see from my demo clip. And I invented a picking riff in the middle to break up the song a bit. I cover this also in detail in the full instructional tutorial from the link below.

Rhythm For Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain By Willie Nelson

Here is a simple pattern you can use all the way thru this one. Note-dn-up-note-up-dn-up .. where the "note" is the root note of the chord you're on. I use a bit of a walking bass riff in one spot after the picking break by playing the G note followed by an open A, A#, B to the C chord.
