Gordon Lightfoot was born in Orillia ON in 1938. He broke into the music scene at age 32 in 1970. He is a self taught guitarist, drummer pianist and percussionist.

As a teen he was an active athelete .. setting records in pole vaulting and shot put.

Althought it was 1970 before he broke into the music scene in a big way. he had songs on major Canadian radio stations as early as 1962.

In late 2002, Lightfoot had emergency surgery that involved his stomach, trachea and more. He was in a coma for 6 weeks. He started recording again later in 2003.

Jimmy Buffett, Dan Fogelberg and Jim Croce were all influenced by Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Dylan said that Lightfoot was one of his favorite songwriters. Many artists have recorded his songs, including Elvis.
