This song became an International hit for the band and although it was part of their 1994 Dookie album, the single never came out until 1997. Billy Joe Armstrong wrote the song as a result of a girlfriend breakup. The mistake you hear on the album version at the very beginning was an actual mistake, so it was left in as a joke.
