If you wonder if Elton John is still popular 40 years in the business, a 2008 Billboard listed him as #3 ... behind Madonana and The Beatles.

Elton John's real name is Reginald Kenneth Dwight. The name Elton John came from combining Blues saxophonist Elton Dean and Long John Baldry.

Elton John Bio Elton learned piano at age 7 and by age 11 he entered the Royal Academy of Music on a junior scholarship. He played a 4 page piece from Handel ... with ease. I played in a rock dance and show band in the early 90's while living in Germany, and our keyboardist was another Elton John I swear. What a talent.

Both his parents were musicians and exposed Elton to lots of records. But his early influences were Elvis and Bill Haley and The Comets. Eltons parents divorced whrn he was 15 but with a new stepfather and a move, he began writing his own material.

Elton has donated to many causes and charities over the years including millions of dollars to AIDS research.

Elton John Bio In 1999 Elton was fitted with a pacemaker, due to a heart issue as early in his career he battled addictions to drugs and alcohol. Its a funny thing how drugs and alcohol causes some successful people to almost destroy themselves, and many have gone down that road ... Cobain, Whitley, Nicole-Smith to name a few.

On 25th Mar 07 Elton performed his 60th appearance at Madison Square Garden in New York ... for his 60th birthday. The performance set a record of most performances in MSG for a single artist. A Two DVD box set is available on the event here at Amazon.

Inside of the music industry, artists often have nicknames. Elton is known as "Sharon", which was given to him by Rod Stewart. Elton calls Rod Stewart "Phyllis". Elton as you know is gay and entered into a civil union with his partner David Furnish on 21 Dec 2005. Elton was previously married to Renate Blauel early in his career but they divorced and have no children.
