Cat Stevens Biography

On this Cat Stevens biography page, I'd like to give you a brief background on this artist. Further on down the page you'll find some links to several Cat Stevens tutorials and lyrics that I've created over in the right hand menu.





Stevens (born as Steven Georgiou) is a British musician and had two #1 hits in the US. The songs "Moon Shadow" and "Peace Train", were both big hits back in the 70's for Cat Stevens.

He has also sold more than 60 million records worldwide and is an established song-writer. He wrote the song "The First Cut Is The Deepest" which was a hit for 4 different artists. That accomplishment earned him two ASCAP songwriting awards.

At age 19 he had a lung collapse due to a bout with Tuberculosis. He wrote many songs during this period and sort of went thru a spiritual transformation.

In the early 70's, Stevens became romantically involved with singer song-writer Carly Simon for a period of about 2 years. Later on in 1977, Stevens converted Islam and dropped the name Cat Stevens for his new name, Yusuf Islam. He continues to perform today at special select events.
