The Nickname "The Boss"
Ever wonder where the nickname "The Boss" came from? It came from playing gigs in bars
when Springsteen used to collect the nights pay and distribute it to the other members of
the band ... but he said he never liked the nickname because of his dislike for "Bosses" in general. We all can relate Bruce!
After two beginning albums that did little to launch his career, The Born To Run album, his third attempt of breaking thru in a big way,
took 14 months to record .. and the song itself took an unheard of 6 months to complete. Even after all of that, Springsteen was not 100%
happy with the final product ... even though it is listed in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry of historic recordings.
You have to be doing something right when Newsweek and Time both put you on the cover for your efforts,
as happened to Springsteen in Oct 1975.
Springsteens 4th album, Nebraska, did not do so well commercially, but his 5th, Born In The USA was a smash hit, charting 7 top 10 hits
after its release in 1984 ... but no #1 hits (Dancing In The Dark reached #2).
Springsteen was married in 1985 to actress Julianne Philips, recorded Tunnel Of Love in 1987 and was divorced later in 1989. As the 80's came
to a close, Springsteen hooked up with backup singer Patti Scialfa, disbanded the E-Street Band and moved to California. He and Patti now
have 3 children.
The 1990's were a bit of a lazy dark period for Springsteen as he himself has said. But in 1999, the E-Band was re-united to kick off a re-union
world tour, which needless to say, was a huge success.
In Honor Of A Fan
Tim Russert, newsman who passed away in Jun 08 was a huge Springsteen fan. At a service held at the Kennedy Centre, Springsteen appeared live
from London and played Russerts favorite song, Thunder Road.
The last Springsteen tour, Working On A Dream Tour, ended in Nov 2009. It may very well have been the last E-Street Band tour, but we'll have
to wait and see if the last of the Bruce Springsteen Bio is now complete, or if there is another chapter ahead.
